From the press release on the Shrapnel Games web site:Hampstead, NC, 31 January, 2007
Illwinter Game Design and Shrapnel Games would like to announce that there is now a new patch available for the critically acclaimed fantasy strategy title, Dominions 3: The Awakening. The patch brings the retail version of the game up to 3.06 and is available for all operating systems that Dominions 3 is playable on.
While the version 3.06 patch includes a number of bug fixes and enhancements for mod improvements, the most exciting aspect of the patch applies to Mac gamers. There is now a universal binary available for Mac players! Not being Mac users ourselves the first thought was that it had something to do with Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme, but then we realized that's Universal Soldier, not universal binary! Apparently the universal binary will allow better performance for Intel-based Macs.
The complete list of changes found in the patch can be found on the download page, and is also found below:
* Universal binary for Mac OS X.
* Fixed some typos.
* New spell for Man.
* Name fixes for late era T'ien Chi.
* Name fix for some Abysian humanbreds.
* Darkness did not work properly regarding demons.
* Modding: new commands: #domsummon, #domsummon2, #domsummon20.
* Modding: new commands: #summon1, #summon5, #makemonster1-5.
* Modding: #copy renamed to #copyspell in manual as well.
* --noscoregraphs works.
* Dreams of R'lyeh could hang the game if cast upon a province with only mindless commanders.
* Hippocampoi Fields summoned a human soldier who immediately drowned, fixed so it summons a hippocamus instead.
* Miasma dominion affected C'tis income badly as well.
* Modding manual updated.
* Modding: Resistances can be modded to exceed 100%.
* Modding: can disable nation with #era 0.
* Modding: new commands: #seduce, #succubus, #charge.
* --mapsbcol didn't work. (FIXED)
* Defense commanders didn't receive mirror image properly. (FIXED)
* Dragon mastery ability could disappear unexpectedly. (FIXED)
The version 3.06 patch for Windows, Mac, and Linux may be downloaded directly from:

Dominions 3: The Awakening is the third game of fantasy religious conflict from Swedish developer Illwinter Game Design. Turn-based in nature, and aimed at providing strategy gamers with an engrossing multiplayer experience of up to twenty-one players (though perfectly suited for the solo gamer), Dominions 3: The Awakening has been the talk of critics and gamers since its release, from being an Editor's Choice at Computer Games Magazine to CYBERSTRATEGE magazine's strategy game of 2006, along with a legion of other accolades.
Packed with more strategy and gameplay than a dozen mainstream games, Dominions 3: The Awakening is the perfect example of eclectic independent gaming at its finest. The base game includes hundreds upon hundreds of unique combat units, spells, and magical artifacts, with modders pushing the envelope every day with even more content. Shipping with a random map generator, no two games ever have to be the same.
Of course a game this big deserves a manual that does it justice, and the Dominions 3: The Awakening manual is the real deal. Spiral-bound with a page count over 300 pages, this is what a manual should look like.
Dominions 3: The Awakening is available for only $54.95 for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. That's right, for $54.95 you get:
* 1500+ combat units, 600+ spells, and 300+ magic items.
* Fifty+ playable nations, three eras, up to twenty-one players (human or AI).
* Random map generator.
* Huge paper manual!
* Easy mod-making.
* Unlimited gameplay!
Cheaper than a typical date, weekend trip, or traffic ticket, Dominions 3: The Awakening will also last longer and provide you with much fonder memories. Be sure to stop by the official Shrapnel Games store, the Gamers Front (www.gamersfront.com/xcart/home.php), to order your copy today!

Earlier, I spent hours migrating the content from this copy of the content management system to another. I then realized that an important aspect of that site wasn't working. In the course of looking for a fix to that site, I found out that there was a very simple fix for the problem THIS site was experiencing. UGH!
What this all boils down to is that I don't have to move us over to the new installation. I needn't have lost all the image files (but unfortunately I did and am still going to be out $150). In fact, the fix turns out to take less than a minute to implement and works fine. This site is going to stay where it is. I'm going to blow away the other copy soon.
So if you went over there and re-registered, I'm sorry I wasted your time.
This whole experience is leaving me feeling rather stupid. That, unfortunately, is a problem with relying on open source (free) software like the content management system I'm using here. I have no one to call for support, and the web forums are so clogged with newbie questions it can be hard to find real answers.
In any case, all is just about well again here and I will get back to updating the news tonight when I get home from work. Right now, I need to go to bed so I can actually get some rest before that.

As you've probably read, this site has had some software problems recently. For the most part they've been invisible to readers except as a minor "hiccup" here and there. To fix them, and make the site better, I've had to move the content to a slightly different location. This copy of the site will stay in place for a short while, but the new copy is where all the action is going to be from here on out. You can find the new copy at: http://gamerhotsheet.com/gaming-news/index.php All the old news from this site will be there, but things will work better on the back end! Existing bookmarks will need to be re-created, however.The following article was imported from our old content management system on 08/10/2008. FanPro Games has published its 2006 Year in Review report on their web site. Some highlights from the article include:
We are a small (less than 5 employees), privately-owned company based out of Chicago, Illinois, but operating primarily virtually (our personnel and key freelancers collaborate and contribute from around the world).
Communication throughout the industry continues to be a problem. FanPro advertises in Games Quarterly Magazine, Games Quarterly Catalog, Game Trade Magazine, in the pre-registration and onsite booklets for game conventions such as Gen Con Indy and Origins, articles in Games Quarterly, and also makes catalogs and posters available to players, retailers, and distributors-yet there are still gamers and retailers who are not aware of FanPro and our games.
The FanPro Commando program-the team of fans that work directly with retailers worldwide to help promote FanPro games-has been extensively overhauled. An emphasis has been placed on making it easier to become a Commando while making sure that in-store events are targeted both at new players, as well as tied-in to releasing products.
Total Warfare is, without question, FanPro’s best-looking and most-polished game ever. We knew that re-launching Classic BattleTech was going to be a tough job, and it was, with thousands of man-hours going into the book. In the end, we shipped the game slightly later than we wanted-early October-but we did have copies available at Gen Con Indy, where the game was, and continues to be, very well received.
2007 will be a busy year as we follow up Total Warfare with the following books: Technical Readout: 3050 Upgrade, Handbook: House Davion, TechManual, Jihad Hot Spots: 3072, Jihad Conspiracies: Interstellar Players 2, Starterbook: Wolf and Blake, Tactical Operations, Handbook: Major Periphery States, and Historical: Operation Klondike. TechManual and Tactical Operations are both full-color hardcover books on the same scale as Total Warfare.
The FanPro Commandos also have a slew of events planned for players in 2007. March will see Black Ghosts, White Death (a tie-in to Jihad Hot Spots: 3072), while June will see Return of the Wolves (a tie-in to Starterbook: Wolf and Blake) events run world-wide. Gen Con 2007 will feature the Angel Requiem event that will reveal numerous, stunning secrets of the Jihad. Finally, all three events are preludes to the Vengeance Gambit II event to be run in September and October … all of which are shaped by the various outcomes of previous events as determined by the players themselves.
Shadowrun in 2007 will see the release of both Augmentation and Arsenal-important rulebooks covering all sorts of technologies, vehicles, and weaponries-along with the second core setting book, Corporate Enclaves, and two plot books: Emergence and one that is yet to be named.
Many small to medium sized publishers (especially RPG-centric ones) either didn’t attend or reduced their presence at Origins International Game Expo in 2006. We weren’t among those companies, but we will be in 2007. While our events team continues to run many great Shadowrun and Classic BattleTech events at Origins, the convention-goers seem to be focused on playing games and not buying them, so in 2007 you’ll see a smaller FanPro booth at Origins, but we’ll still be running tons of games.
Gen Con Indy continues to be a great convention for FanPro, and 2006 was our best Gen Con to date. We had our largest booth ever-shared, as usual, with Iron Wind Metals and BattleCorps-and the crew at Virtual World Entertainment brought two BattleTech pods for head-to-head ‘Mech action. Both Shadowrun and Classic BattleTech had strong sales, led by Shadowrun’s Street Magic and Classic BattleTech’s Total Warfare, and our tournaments and other games were well-attended. There’s always room for improvement of course, so while our “booth runner” game was fun for many who participated, we have some tweaks in mind for this year, and you’ll also see some changes to our demo areas to allow for faster introduction to all of our games.
For 2007, we’ll also be adding the Penny Arcade Expo-August 24, 25, and 26, in Seattle-to our list of cons to attend.

Eureka Miniatures posted a story on January 23 about a new set of 28mm miniatures for the 1970s TSR publication "The Empire of the Petal Throne". According to Eureka's site:
"This new release provides everything you need to form your own First Legion of Ever-Present Glory, including troopers, archers, command figures, and the great general Kéttukal, all in their distinctive and colourful regalia. We think it is this distinctive Tékumel look that sets these figures apart from so many other fantasy genres, and even if Professor Barker’s world doesn’t fire your imagination here is an opportunity to raise a fantasy army that looks like no other."

From the BITS UK web site:BITS are proud to announce closer ties with yet another game publisher. Following on from our collaboration with Jon Tuffley at Ground Zero Games to produce our much-applauded Traveller starship combat system Power Projection we are now beginning printing of the Power Projection: Fleet rules through Ken Burnside at Ad Astra Games in the USA.
We continue to have stock of the original UK printings of both Power Projection: Escort and Fleet, but this agreement allows us to produce and distribute the updated version of Fleet more easily in the USA. We will continue to stock and distribute the original UK printing to distributors, mail order customers and at conventions, but will replace these with the US-printed version over time.
We will only be printing Fleet at Ad Astra; though Escort is a useful, and fun, lead-in to Power Projection, the economics of printing meant it wasn't worth producing Escort in the USA: for our first out-source to Ad Astra we wanted to focus on the complete rules set in Fleet and see how it went.
We intend to collaborate further with Ken and his team at Ad Astra on future projects, just as we continue to work very closely with Jon at Ground Zero Games with our upcoming Power Projection: Reinforcements book.
