If you've never heard of them, Studio Bergstrom is a miniatures producer whose product line consists of a variety of very interesting miniature ships and warriors for gaming purposes. Many of the designs are "not quite" the same as vehicles and units you might see in shows like Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc., but certainly give that impression at first glance. Most are priced fairly reasonably, though prices are expected to climb in June to cover rising costs. If you need some inexpensive miniatures that remind you of the more-expensive licensed variety, you may want to check Studio Bergstrom's site out.

GURPS Spaceships to Begin Playtesting Soon

Steve Jackson Games published the following information on their Daily Illuminator yesterday:

We are seeking playtesters for GURPS Spaceships (a series of 32-50 page e23 GURPS Space supplements), the first of which will focus on spaceship design and combat. Playtesters must be willing to use the system's rules -- for the first book in the series, that means building ships or playing out combats, not just reading the manuscript! As it is a multi-part series, the Spaceships playtest is expected to stretch over a longer period of time than most recent playtests (about two weeks per book).

However, no familiarity with prior GURPS space design or combat systems is required; this system is not based on Traveller or Vehicle Design rules! Playtest will start soon and participant slots will be more limited than usual, so please respond quickly. The deadline for submissions is May 30, and we expect the first book's playtest to run from June 1 through June 15.

As customary, playtest participation is via a closed e-mail list limited to Pyramid subscribers. To apply, please e-mail the Lead Playtest, Jeff Wilson (jwilson@io.com), with "GURPS SPACESHIPS" in the subject, and include your name, pyramid username, preferred e-mail address for the mailing list, and any qualifications you feel make you suited for the playtest. Inexperienced GURPS players and never-before playtesters are encouraged to apply.

Creative Mountain Games Curmudgeon's Corner has published a list of "unspoken rules of conduct" for role-playing gamers. These probably apply, with minor variations, to every other kind of social gaming out there. Here's a sort of "crib sheet" to the full rules listed in the CMG article:

1. Arrive on time and ready to play.
2. Bring everything you need to play your character.
3. Listen attentively when the DM is speaking.
4. Know what you want to do when it is your turn to act.
5. If you are not the DM, don't answer questions directed at the DM.
6. Play your character, not the other players'.

For the full discussion, or to suggest additional rules which should be included, see the full CMG article.

The press release on the Adamant Entertainment blog provides the following information about The Sharp End:

The Sharp End is a new series of PDF game supplements brought to you by Adamant Entertainment and Ian Sturrock (designer of Conan: The Roleplaying Game). Each volume in the series, intended for use in almost any game setting and any d20-based game system, aims to provide you with detailed information and new rules material concerning one particular type of hand-to-hand weapon and its variants.

The sword is the ultimate symbol of the warrior across many different cultures -- particularly the noble, honorable warrior, whether European knight, Viking thane, Japanese samurai, or Moro chief. It has attracted more than enough mystique to go with that status; every sword-using society has tales of magical blades, swords that took years to forge and which could slice through any opposition.

The Sharp End: SWORD features:

  • New swords.

  • Rules for customizing swords based on materials, blade and point shape, variant hilts and guards.

  • Feats based on real-world sword techniques.

  • Six Prestige Classes, based on real-world schools or techniques of the sword, including one which allows for new schools to be constructed to suit your individual campaign.

  • The text of the Code Duello, the historical rules for duelling.

Some World of Warcraft players have expressed frustration at trying to find Dr. Gustaf VanHowzen, the First Aid Trainer who will take Alliance players from 225 maximum First Aid skill to 300 maximum First Aid skill.  This page has been created to help players easily locate Dr. VanHowzen and further their First Aid training.

The first step in getting to Gustaf VanHowzen is to make your way to Baradin Bay and Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands area.  When you reach Menethil, head west toward the docks.  When you reach the docks, walk down the left-most pier (as you're facing West) to the ship which periodically arrives and departs.  See illustration below:

I've seen a number of people on World of Warcraft forums saying that it's very hard to find Deneb Walker in Stromgarde. In reality, it's very easy if you've done it before, but perhaps not so easy if you are going in blind. This guide is as detailed a step-by-step walkthrough of how to get to Deneb Walker as I could create. Hopefully it will solve your navigation problems.

The first step in getting to Deneb Walker is to make your way to the Arathi Highlands. Once there, you need to follow the road west out of Refuge Point until it reaches a “T” shaped intersection. There, you'll go right (North) until you reach the entry road to the castle, where you'll turn left and face the entrance, which looks like this:
