Zombiegeddon Coming from Twilight Creations

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
According to Twilight Creations' web site, Reiner Knizia's Zombiegeddon is coming in February 2009:

Reiner Knizia's Zombiegeddon
Well, it was nice while it lasted! You have gotten word that the end is near, and Armageddon is right around the corner. (Actually, it begins tonight!) Since it may be a while before you can get to the store, today would be a good time to gather as many supplies as possible. After all, tommorow might be the beginning of a long, cold, (nuclear) winter!

Reiner Knizia's Zombiegeddon is a fast-paced, perfect-information, strategy game. Each player spends the first half of the game rushing around the board collecting supplies and trying to stop your pesky neighbors from taking stuff that is rightfully yours. (At least as far as you are concerned!)

The second half of the game is spent trying to survive. Sure their is some good stuff around, but it certainly isn't plentiful and let's face it, everyone is still trying to take it before you do! (Whoever has the most stuff at the end of the game wins!)

Zombiegeddon is a game for two to four players, ages 12 and up.
Coming February 2009!

"Re-poppable" Bubble Wrap?

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
If there's someone in your life who really enjoys popping bubble wrap, here's a gift you can get them this year that will keep on giving for a long time to come.  This little handheld electronic toy doubles as a sort of Russian Roulette style game.  As you pass it around a table, each person "pops" a bubble by pressing on one of the little buttons.  The one who gets a sound other than a "pop" is the loser.  I don't have one myself, but it's said to be as addictive as bubble wrap to those who enjoy popping that...

Here's the official site for the Mugen Pop Pop (tm) from Ban Dai.

Here's a link to where you can buy it for someone from Amazon.com (currently priced at $10-12).

About.com Boardgame Specials and Recommendations

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Although Black Friday has come and gone, Erik Arneson over at About.com's board game blog has some Black Friday recommendations for board games that are suitable as gifts for young children, or adults and older children.

For young children, he recommends these titles:
Electronic Guess Who? Extra
Hula Hippos (I guess the hippos have stopped being "hungry, hungry"?)
Sorry! Sliders
Star Wars Galactic Heroes
For older kids and adults, Arneson recommends:
A to Z Electronic Version
Backseat Drawing
Blokus 3D
Pictionary Man
Pictureka!
Snorta!
Tiki Topple
Yahtzee Free for All
Apples to Apples
Electronic Catch Phrase
Wits and Wagers
My personal recommendations include the following less-mainstream games:

Zombies from Twilight Creations
In this game, based loosely on the various zombie movies, players take on the role of a human survivor of the zombie apocalypse attempting to make it to a helicopter landing pad and escape on the helicopter.  The game can run rather long if you have a large number of players, but I've enjoyed the hours I've spent playing it and so have my friends.  For more information, see this page on the manufacturer's web site.

Pirate's Cove from Days of Wonder
This game puts players in the role of pirates, trying to amass fame and fortune on the high seas.  There's a bit of luck and a bit of strategy involved in winning the game.  It's rated for ages 8 and up.

Family Business from Mayfair Games
In this game, each player takes the lead of a mafia crime family and tries to wipe out the other gangs by putting out hits on them, getting them arrested, etc.  It's a fast-paced game and requires a good bit of strategy to win.  It's not especially graphic or bloody, though it depicts a very violent time (Prohibition era) in American history.  It's suitable for ages 8 and up.

It is fair to note that the above links go to Amazon.com, where I have an affiliate account. While your purchase via the above links will NOT increase the price you pay, this site and I will get a small percentage of your total order amount for going through the link to this site.

Z-Man Games' Pandemic for $18.95 from Pozy.com

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
The Pozy.com games page is currently offering the Z-Man Games boardgame "Pandemic" for $18.95, which is approximately $16 off its normal retail price.  The Z-Man web site describes Pandemic as follows:

Four diseases have broken out in the world and it is up to a team of specialists in various fields to find cures for these diseases before mankind is wiped out.

Players must work together, playing to their characters' strengths and planning their strategy of eradication before the diseases overwhelm the world with ever-increasing outbreaks. For example, the Operation Specialist can build research stations, which are needed to find cures for the diseases. The Scientist needs only 4 cards of a particular disease to cure it instead of the normal 5.

But the diseases are outbreaking fast and time is running out: the team must try to stem the tide of infection in diseased areas while also towards cures.

A truly cooperative game where you all win or you all lose.

Contents: board, 96 wooden cubes (for diseases), 5 pawns, 6 wooden research stations,
6 markers: 1 outbreak marker, 1 infection rate marker, and 4 cure markers, 115 Cards: 48 infection cards, 59 player cards, 4 role cards, and 4 quick reference cards
No. of players: 2-4
Ages: 10+
Playing time: 45-60 minutes
Price: $34.99
Stock code: ZMG 7021

At this kind of a discount, I expect the game will sell out quickly, like the Axis & Allies: Guadalcanal on Tanga.com did earlier today.

I should point out as a matter of due diligence that I have no affiliation with, nor have I ever ordered anything from, Pozy.com.  Their inclusion here is as a news item and a public service, not an endorsement or recommendation.

Axis and Allies Guadalcanal for $16.99 at Tanga.com

The Tanga.com web site is currently offering Avalon Hill's Axis & Allies: Guadalcanal for only $16.99 plus shipping.  The specials on this site are typically offered for a short time (e.g., 24 hours), so you may want to move on this quickly if you're interested.  Note that I've not personally bought anything from this site so I can't vouch for its reliability or service.
